A follow-up to Lane Heymont’s world building session, in this workshop we will apply the world building skills to your own work-in-progress to sink readers into your world. Leave the session with the necessary tools to bolster the believability of your story’s world and next steps to apply to your manuscript.
We will be doing activities to:
- Add clarity and grounding to your world.
- Delineate the alternate and real world and make them both work for your characters and story.
- Introduce your world to the reader through your characters and action to reduce telling and backstory.
- Identify world characteristics and elements that will add to your characters’ development.
- Reduce ‘world clutter’ and give the reader what they need, when they need it.
(Bring 3 copies of about 10 pages) of your manuscript. The opening chapter is a good option but if there is a particular section you are struggling with bring that as well.)
