Author, young adult
Mary G. Thompson met her agent, Kate McKean of the Howard Morhaim Literary Agency, at the SCWC*San Diego conference in 2008. Since then, she has sold three middle grade novels to Clarion Books/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Publisher’s Weekly called her first novel, Wuftoom “a wildly imaginative debut” and praised it as “a break from the same-old-same-old.” Her second novel, Escape from the Pipe Men!, a middle grade space-travel adventure in which two young siblings scour the universe in search for an antidote for their accidentally poisoned father, was released in 2013. Originally from Eugene, OR, Mary practiced law for more than seven years, including almost five years in the U.S. Navy. In 2010, she moved to New York to attend The New School’s MFA program in Writing for Children. In addition to more middle grade novels, Mary is also working on teen stories and picture books. Her latest novel is Evil Fairies Love Hair, out this past August from Clarion. Find her on the web at MaryGThompson.com.
